ARTEMISIA GENTILESCHI

Following a similar pose as Nicole, the work follows the spirit of the individualism, inspiring pioneering female portraits to assert their identities. Without overtly referencing female beauty or sexuality, Artemesia
asserts that they are both the possession of the individual. The playful expression in Artemisia’s eyes, and the nonchalance of her sideways gaze were described to ‘light up any room’ by Firenze Yes Please. The work takes the name of one of the earliest feminist painters who became known for her realism, her accomplished use of chiaroscuro, and for placing women and their stories at the center of her images in the 17th century.
